If you’ve been looking for an excuse to get out and explore a little closer to home, this is a good time for it. There’s something especially nice about these late-summer days in Folsom and El Dorado Hills, when an ordinary Saturday can turn into coffee with friends, a stroll through a market, or an evening listening to music by the lake.

This issue brings together a little bit of everything, including community news, local businesses, upcoming shows, and plenty of events. Some are old favorites, and some might be new to you.

'Les Misérables' hits Sutter Street Theatre

The Gist: Sutter Street Theatre is bringing Les Misérables School Edition to the stage starting August 28. Directed by Mike Jimena and Kenny Brian Gagni, the production features local cast members Audrey Arnold, Larry Rycerz, Ryan Chapin, and Bressa Magallanes. The show condenses Victor Hugo’s classic story of hope and redemption into a two-hour musical experience featuring orchestrations from the Tony-nominated 2014 Broadway revival.
Why It Matters: Having a world-renowned classic performed by local talent right in our backyard is a wonderful way to support Folsom's arts scene. Gathering with neighbors for an evening of theater makes for a memorable night out while cheering on the incredible young performers in our community.
Folsom Prep names a familiar face as its new head
The Gist: Folsom Preparatory School has promoted Tina Robertson, known around campus as "Ms. Tina," to Head of School. She joined the TK-6 private school in 2023 in classroom and leadership support roles, and now steps up as Candis Murawski returns to teaching sixth grade after seven years leading the school.
Why It Matters: Folsom Prep is one of the area's most sought-after small private schools, and a smooth, promote-from-within handoff is reassuring for the families who count on it. The 2026-27 school year is already underway, with limited openings left in a few grade levels.

Let your sushi rituals start here

3907 Park Dr #125, El Dorado Hills
Sky Sushi is a spot regulars get a little possessive about. The room glows with chandeliers, bamboo, and soft string lighting, creating a scene that easily elevates a warm late-summer evening.
The fish is remarkably fresh: from silky teriyaki salmon and bright ikura to crowd favorites like the Lion King roll and garlic edamame. Off-menu cravings? Just ask the chef to roll something special. Paired with a chilled sake or craft cocktail, it is definitely an EDH classic. Come for the sushi, stay because nobody is rushing you out.

A treasure trove of endless tabletop adventures

13000 Folsom Blvd #212, Folsom
The Game Getaway brings classic unplugged fun to Folsom Premium Outlets with an unbelievable library of over 1,500 titles available to play all day for six bucks. Fresh stock arrives constantly, from quick dexterity setups to deep strategy games.
Owner Ron is looking to pass the torch to someone new to carry on the shop, so drop in soon, grab some gear, and soak up the vibe before their new chapter rolls on.
Skip the Resort. Stay in a Centuries-Old Sicilian Village Instead.
Casa Gratteri offers beautifully restored homes in Gratteri, a hidden mountain town in Sicily with sweeping views, deep history, and zero crowds. Full concierge service, a private chef on request, and modern finishes throughout. This is the kind of trip people talk about for the rest of their lives.
