Folsom Pro Rodeo gets a hometown Grand Marshal

The Gist: Harry Elliott will lead the 65th Folsom Pro Rodeo as Grand Marshal, adding a familiar local face to one of the city’s biggest annual traditions. The rodeo coverage also ties this year’s event to Folsom’s 80th anniversary year, which gives the story a stronger local hook than just another event preview.

Why It Matters: The rodeo already brings the crowds, but the Grand Marshal choice gives it a little more hometown character. It is the kind of detail locals like knowing before the big weekend.

EDH’s Fireworks & Freedom Kids Zone will benefit Hands4Hope

The Gist: El Dorado Musical Theatre’s Young Stars are bringing Madagascar: A Musical Adventure Jr. to Harris Center, giving younger performers a big local stage for a familiar family story. The show follows the zoo escape, island chaos, and “move it” energy that kids know from the movie.

Why It Matters: This is exactly the kind of local arts story families notice. It gives young performers a serious stage experience and gives parents another reason to keep an eye on what EDMT is doing in Folsom.

A new grill spot in Broadstone

2766 East Bidwell Street, Suite 300, Folsom, CA

Stonebird Japanese Grill & Noodles is one of the newer names to know in Folsom, tucked into Broadstone Marketplace with a menu built around Japanese grill plates, noodles, and warm, shareable dishes. The storefront was previously a ramen spot, but Stonebird has shifted the feel toward open-flame skewers and a more grill-forward setup.

The menu still works for a casual weeknight. There are skewers prepared over open flame, pork gyoza for the table, ramen and noodle options, and desserts like matcha tiramisu if you want to finish with something a little different.

It feels like the kind of place you try because it is new, then remember the next time someone says, “Where should we grab dinner near East Bidwell?”

A Sutter Street shop made for browsing

702 Sutter Street, Suite D, Folsom, CA

Not Too Shabby has the kind of Historic Folsom personality that makes you slow down a little. The shop is family owned and operated, with hand-painted furniture, home decor, baby gifts, boutique finds, and plenty of pieces that feel more collected than mass-produced.

It is also a good stop for the creative crowd. Not Too Shabby carries Annie Sloan Chalk Paint and Iron Orchid Designs products, and its workshop calendar includes hands-on classes for people who like the idea of making something instead of just buying it.

If you are already wandering Sutter Street for the market, dinner, or a show, this is one of those stores that can turn a quick lap downtown into a much better afternoon.
