It feels like we finally hit that sweet spot where the mornings are crisp but the afternoons are begging for a patio seat. There is a lot of motion in town this week, especially with the new park plans moving forward for the Benevento family site.

It is always great to see more green space being prioritized as we grow. Between the jazz festival and the community bike rides, your weekend calendar is probably already looking pretty full. I hope you find a minute to slow down and enjoy the local energy.

Folsom’s next neighborhood park is taking shape

The Gist: The Benevento Family Park Master Development Plan is moving to the Folsom City Council for consideration on April 28 after unanimous approval from the Parks & Recreation Commission on March 31. City materials say the plan reflects community input and is intended to guide future park design and development for residents of all ages.

Why It Matters: New parks are not small things in a growing city. They shape how families gather, how kids play, and how neighborhoods feel years down the road.

What's Next: The Folsom City Council is set to consider the plan at its April 28 meeting.

A specialty butcher is headed to Town Center

The Gist: Kings Meats is preparing to open a second location at El Dorado Hills Town Center, expanding its family-run butcher shop known for dry-aged cuts, deli meats, cheeses, sausages, and specialty provisions. The new store will bring another food-focused destination into one of EDH’s busiest community hubs.

Why It Matters: For locals, this is the kind of opening that changes routine errands into a real stop. It also adds another independently run business to the Town Center mix, which is always good news for the area’s local shopping scene.

The kind of breakfast that lingers

426 East Bidwell St, Folsom, CA

Gold Miner Cafe feels like the sort of place you end up recommending without meaning to. It is family owned, open daily for breakfast, brunch, and lunch, and built around the kind of hearty, home-style cooking that makes East Bidwell feel a little smaller and friendlier.

There is a lot to like on the menu, but the standouts are the big breakfast plates and old-school comfort picks. Hannah’s comes loaded with eggs, bacon or links, and flapjacks or French toast, June’s Lumber Jack goes all in with eggs, bacon, links, ham, flapjacks, and potatoes, and the house-made biscuit setups make a strong case for showing up hungry.

It reads like the kind of spot where regulars have a favorite booth and nobody judges you for ordering the bigger breakfast. That is usually a good sign.

A bookstore with real neighborhood charm

724 Sutter Street, Folsom, CA 95630

Ruby’s Books has the kind of personality that makes Historic Folsom feel even more like itself. It is a local independent bookstore with a curated mix of new books, toys, and gifts, and the shop leans hard into being a welcoming place for readers of all ages.

The details are what make it memorable. The store highlights local makers, hosts events, and even introduces visitors to its namesake golden retriever, Ruby. That gives it more warmth than the average browse-and-go bookshop.

If you have been looking for a good excuse to slow down on Sutter Street for a while, this is one.
