There’s something about this stretch of days that invites you to exhale. The calendar loosens its grip, the air feels a little lighter, and even the simplest plans, a favorite meal, a place to move your body, a reason to show up for someone else, carry more weight than usual. It’s the kind of week made for comfort, connection, and just enough fun to shake off whatever the year left behind.

This week’s Scoop leans into that feeling. Think crave-worthy Mexican spots, axe-throwing with a competitive edge, cheerful toy drive-throughs, festive outings, and live music that keeps the nights from ending too early. Take your time with it. Pick what sounds good. Share a moment. And enjoy the rare luxury of a week that’s meant to be savored.

Mexican Dishes Perfect for the Weekends

Some places earn loyalty the old-fashioned way, by doing the fundamentals really well, every single time. La Cascada Family Mexican Restaurant in El Dorado Hills is exactly that kind of restaurant.
The menu leans from fajitas to carnitas that keep regulars coming back for more. The room stays relaxed and welcoming, and the service has a great reputation. It’s easy to see why locals make this a food joint stop.

Your Family Night Gets Dangerous Quick

The Smart Axe is one of those places you don’t expect to love, then can’t stop talking about. First-timers say the staff walks you through everything, from safety to technique, until you’re confidently sticking axes.
Locals always mention their exciting, adrenaline-filled activities, knife throwing as an extra option, and lots of laughs and upbeat fun whether it’s a date night, family outing, or group celebration together.

Toy Drive Holiday Magic for Local Children

The Gist: Volunteers filled a 5,000 square foot warehouse and handed out toys to nearly 400 local families through a smooth drive-through pickup. Thanks to the Marine Corps League, El Dorado Hills Community, and local foundation members, almost 17,000 donated gifts were provided.
Why It Matters: This effort was named the 2023 National Campaign of the Year, a proud reminder that our community generosity stands out. Registration for next year opens in July at Placerville Veterans Building.
Folsom's Highway 50 Trail $2.2M Repairs

The Gist: Folsom City just approved a $497,312 design contract for a new undercrossing beneath Highway 50 near Placerville Road. Once built, it will finally link Folsom Ranch to the rest of the city’s trail system, making Folsom’s first continuous north to south route for walkers and cyclists.
Why It Matters: This closes one of the largest network gap trail and makes getting across town safer without mixing into highway traffic.
