The Gist: The seventh annual All-American Soap Box Derby transformed Historic Folsom into a cheering, cowbell-filled racetrack this weekend. Around 30 young racers, some traveling from Oregon and Washington, sped handmade gravity cars down Sutter Street in a double-elimination showdown.

The Gist: A Seattle developer plans to turn the parking lot of the old Macy’s at El Camino and Watt into a five-story, 200-unit apartment complex. The Macy’s building itself, vacant since 2016, will be converted into a self-storage facility.
