It is always a proud moment when one of our own makes a splash on the national stage, especially when they’re still in high school. This week, we’re celebrating a Folsom sophomore who took her business idea all the way to a national pitch competition and came home a winner.

It is that kind of local talent and drive that makes our community so special. We’ve also got the latest on the major bridge construction coming to Rancho Cordova, which is set to finally bridge the gap over Highway 50. It’s a busy week for progress and local wins, and we’re happy to share it all with you.
In today’s Scoop:
🥩 Prime steaks on Sutter Street.
💎 Fossils and crystals downtown.
📱 Folsom teen’s national award.
🌉 New Zinfandel pedestrian bridge.

Where Historic Folsom Goes to Celebrate Everything

604 Sutter St, Folsom, CA
If your idea of a perfect evening involves a USDA Prime ribeye, a dirty martini with hand-stuffed blue cheese olives, and a setting that somehow manages to feel both elegant and genuinely warm, Sutter Street Steakhouse has been waiting for you. Tucked inside
Folsom's beautifully renovated Electric Building, this downtown gem from the award-winning team behind Chico's 5th Street Steakhouse draws regulars who keep coming back for anniversaries, proposals, and the kind of steak that makes people forget to take photos.

The Wonderland Hidden on Sutter Street

625 Sutter St, Folsom, CA
Tucked into Historic Folsom's Sutter Street, Planet Earth Rising is the kind of shop that stops you mid-browse. The selection runs deep: rough minerals, fossils, tumbled stones, crystal singing bowls, and specialty tools that serious practitioners won't find anywhere else in the Sacramento area.
Families feel welcome, regulars bring friends, and first-timers tend to lose track of time. Bonus: they have their own parking lot, which in this part of town is genuinely worth mentioning.

Folsom Sophomore Takes Her Business Idea to the National Stage

The Gist: St. Francis High School sophomore Gemma Frisch and teammate Alexandra Wallace placed second runner-up in a national business pitch competition hosted by NAWBO and Junior Achievement of Sacramento. Their app, Specialized Care for Kids, connects families with sitters trained to handle specialized care needs.
Why It Matters: Frisch is a Folsom resident bringing home national recognition while still in her sophomore year.
Rancho Cordova's $36.7M Pedestrian Bridge Over Highway 50 Is Moving Forward

The Gist: Construction on a new pedestrian and bike overcrossing on Zinfandel Drive is set to begin this summer, finally linking the two sides of Rancho Cordova divided by Highway 50. The tied-arch bridge will also connect to nearby light rail stations on Folsom Boulevard.
Why It Matters: The crossing improves walkability and safety for residents on both sides of the freeway, and a $1.4 million art walk will make it a community landmark too.
